This is a heavy-duty industrial antique inverted gas arc lamp / hanging station lantern frame, dating directly from the Late Victorian to Early Edwardian era (circa 1890s-1910s). This architectural salvage piece is incredibly well-preserved and completely intact structurally.
It represents the pinnacle of high-intensity gas lighting technology used to illuminate railway depots, commercial shops, and factories just before electric infrastructure took over. Hollow Threaded Mounting Pipe: The top features a hollow, threaded pipe designed to screw directly into a building's rigid gas supply lines, rather than hanging freely from a standard electrical wire. This maximized surface area to cool rising heat and protect ceiling connections from scorching.
