The object in the image is an early 20th-century Eveready wooden torch or lantern, also known as a "bullseye lensed torch". These lanterns were among the earliest products made by the American Electrical Novelty & Manufacturing Company, later known as Eveready.

They often featured a wooden case, commonly made from oak, and a brass carrying handle and on/off switch. An advertisement for this type of Eveready torch dates back to 1913, indicating its historical period. Similar to the one pictured, some early models were designed as bicycle lanterns due to the popularity of cycling at the turn of the century.
